Villa - Location and Travel Details

Mohon Hills (El Mojon), Isla Plana, Puerto Mazarron, Murcia, Spain

Where is Isla Plana?

Puerto Mazarron - Costa Calida, Murcia

This area is know as the Costa Calida (Warm Coast), it is in Murcia province in the South East of Spain.

Climate is warm to hot in the summer, click here or see the Weather button on the Home page for more details, including seasonal and historical.

However there are proper seasons, it rains quite regularly in the Winter and Spring, although it never gets cold like Northern Spain or the UK. The rain brings good growing conditions, this is a major area for vegetable growing and there are huge commercial gardens only a few kilometres past the villa in the village.

Although there are a number of foreign owned villa and apartments in the area there are nothing like the concentration found in other more traditional holiday areas in Spain, and this villa is used by Spanish and French clients, amongst others. The area is reasonably quiet, the village is small and very suitable for family holidays, there are children's play areas and the beaches are both sandy and safe to swim in.

How to get there

The nearest airport is Murcia - San Javier, it is about 60 minutes drive away down the AP7 motorway, which has a section charging tolls of about €5. This trip can be done faster once you know the way, but it is a very straightforward journey. There is another route through the mountains to avoid the tolls which is very picturesque but slower. The airport is small and so easy to navigate through, although this means very little duty-free!

The current airport is at San Javier, on the coast on the edge of the Mar Menor, a spectacular inland sea. It is serviced by EasyJet and Ryanair all year,   and BA are now also offering a service. The trip takes about 2 hours from SE England, slightly more if you further North. Car hire is easy and can be fairly cheap, depending on the season. A new airport is due to open at Corvera which is closer, it is likely to be fully operational at the end of 2018.

It is possible to get a flight to Alicante which is a major holiday destination with a lot of flights. It is an hour's drive further north up the coast and the airport can be crowded, but there are a lot more flight options.
